Vermilion, Ohio

Vermilion is a city in Erie and Lorain counties in the U.S. state of Ohio, on Lake Erie. The population was 10,594 at the 2010 census.[4] The current mayor is Jim Forthofer. The Lorain County portion of Vermilion is part of the Cleveland–Elyria–Mentor Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Erie County portion is part of the Sandusky Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Vermilion was initially settled in the early 19th century and incorporated as a village in 1837.[5] The city took its name from the nearby Vermilion River.[6] It developed as a fishing and small boat harbor. In 1847 the Congress of the United States built the Vermilion Lighthouse to aid navigation on Lake Erie.

As commerce grew in larger nearby cities, the Vermilion River proved inadequate to large commercial traffic. Later, recreational boating became very popular. During the early 20th century the area became known as a resort community, featuring many beaches and cottages. Most structures were eventually converted to year-round use; many still are used as summer homes or vacation houses. Linwood Park in Vermilion is a good example.

Wayland, Ohio

Wayland is an unincorporated community in western Paris Township, Portage County, Ohio, United States. It is located at latitude 41.161 and longitude -81.071, with an elevation of 948 feet.[1] Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 44285.[2] The community is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area.

For a period of time in the nineteenth century, when it was a stop on the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal, Wayland was called "Cyclone." However, the name was changed, as it reminded people of a tornado.[3] The community is nicknamed Cyclone, Newport and Parisville.[1]

West Salem, Ohio

West Salem is a village in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,464 at the 2010 census. West Salem is served by a branch of the Wayne County Public Library.[4] The noted drag racing track Dragway 42 is located nearby.

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 1,464 people, 558 households, and 393 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,343.1 inhabitants per square mile (518.6/km2). There were 620 housing units at an average density of 568.8 per square mile (219.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.8% White, 0.1% African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.0% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 558 households of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.6% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.00.

The Wind in the Willows

The Wind in the Willows is a children's novel by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternately slow-moving and fast-paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animals in a pastoral version of Edwardian England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality and camaraderie, and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames Valley.

In 1908, Grahame retired from his position as secretary of the Bank of England. He moved back to Berkshire, where he had lived as a child, and spent his time by the River Thames doing much as the animal characters in his book do – as the book says, "simply messing about in boats" – and expanding the bedtime stories he had earlier told his son Alastair into a manuscript for the book.

The novel was in its 31st printing when playwright A. A. Milne adapted part of it for the stage as Toad of Toad Hall in 1929. 1946 saw the first of several film adaptions. In 2003, The Wind in the Willows was listed at number 16 in the BBC's survey The Big Read.[1] More than a century after its original publication, it was adapted again for the stage in 2016 musical by Julian Fellowes.

Versailles, Ohio

Versailles (/vərˈseɪlz/ vər-SAYLZ) is a village in Darke County, Ohio, United States. It is the only village in Wayne Township. The population was 2,687 at the 2010 census. The proper local pronunciation of the name is ver-sales, with the accent on the second syllable, unlike the French city of the same name.[5][6]

Founded in 1819,[7] the village is named after the city of Versailles in France. Versailles was originally named Jacksonville.[8] However, as a large number of early residents were of French descent, it was suggested that the village's name be changed to "Versailles" in memory of their homeland. Versailles became the new name of the village in 1837.

Versailles is located at 40°13′23″N 84°29′06″W / 40.222964°N 84.485077°W / 40.222964; -84.485077.[9] According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.88 square miles (4.87 km2), of which 1.87 square miles (4.84 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[2]

T-Wayne (album)

T-Wayne is a collaborative mixtape by American hip hop artists T-Pain and Lil Wayne. Recorded in 2009, it was delayed due to Lil Wayne's legal troubles and was unexpectedly released for free streaming on May 19, 2017, by Nappy Boy Entertainment & Young Money Entertainment.[1] T-Pain initially leaked a cover for the album and then several hours later posted it in its entirety for free download on mixtape sharing sites.[2]

West Union, Ohio

Ironically, West Union lies east of Union, Ohio, a city in Montgomery County approximately 10 miles north of Dayton. West Union and Union are not adjacent to each other, actually being approximately 120 miles from each other.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 3,241 people, 1,322 households, and 805 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,145.2 inhabitants per square mile (442.2/km2). There were 1,493 housing units at an average density of 527.6 per square mile (203.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.4% White, 0.4% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population.

There were 1,322 households of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.5% were married couples living together, 17.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 39.1% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.91.

Cincinnati metropolitan area

The Cincinnati metropolitan area, informally known as Greater Cincinnati or the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State Area, is a metropolitan area that includes counties in the U.S. states of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana around the Ohio city of Cincinnati. The United States Census Bureau's formal name for the area is the Cincinnati–Middletown, OH–KY–IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, this MSA had a population of 2,114,580, the largest metropolitan area involving Ohio and 27th-largest in the United States.[2]

The Census also lists the Cincinnati–Wilmington–Maysville, OH–KY–IN Combined Statistical Area, which adds Clinton County, Ohio (defined as the Wilmington, OH micropolitan area) and Mason County, Kentucky (defined as the Maysville, KY micropolitan area) for a 2014 estimated population of 2,208,450.[3]

The Cincinnati, OH–KY–IN, MSA was originally formed by the United States Census Bureau in 1950 and consisted of the Kentucky counties of Campbell and Kenton and the Ohio county of Hamilton. As surrounding counties saw an increase in their population densities and the number of their residents employed within Hamilton County, they met Census criteria to be added to the MSA. The Hamilton–Middletown, OH MSA was also formed in 1950 and consisted solely of Butler County, Ohio.

South Vienna, Ohio

The South Vienna Corn Festival is well known throughout the area, and is held on the weekend after Labor Day. The village also has the distinction of having Permit #1, issued by the State of Ohio for traffic lights. Toni Keller is the current mayor.

South Vienna was originally called Vienna, and under the latter name was platted in 1833.[6] A post office called Vienna Cross Roads was established in 1840, and the name was changed to South Vienna in 1909.[7]

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 384 people, 148 households, and 102 families residing in the village. The population density was 738.5 inhabitants per square mile (285.1/km2). There were 166 housing units at an average density of 319.2 per square mile (123.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 90.4% White, 0.8% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 5.7% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.8% of the population.

Waynesfield, Ohio

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 847 people, 309 households, and 218 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,144.6 inhabitants per square mile (441.9/km2). There were 350 housing units at an average density of 473.0 per square mile (182.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.8% White, 0.6% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 309 households of which 42.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.4% were non-families. 25.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.29.

The median age in the village was 33.5 years. 31.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.3% were from 25 to 44; 23.1% were from 45 to 64; and 10.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 47.9% male and 52.1% female.
